Municipal company head investigated for traffic of influence and passive corruption
The manager of a Chisinau housing stock managing company is investigated for traffic of influence and passive corruption. The man is suspected of asking for money from a Chisinau resident and for trying to bribe anticorruption officers, who caught him in the act, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime, the suspect was arrested in his office in the morning of November 22. He is accused of asking for €900 for influencing servants of the Chisinau City Hall to validate documents legalizing a house.
Earlier, he received €100 from the same person for paying employees of the State Construction Inspectorate for hastening the validation of the necessary documents. Later, he tried to bribe employees of the Center, offering them €1 500 for not arresting him for 72 hours.
The man is liable to three to seven years in prison and a fine of 10 000 to 30 000 lei for traffic of influence and to up to five years behind bars and a fine of 20 000 to 60 000 lei for passive corruption.
