Municipality will not look for a Christmas tree for the Government
The municipality refused to look for a Christmas tree for the central authorities. During Monday’s City Hall meeting, Deputy Mayor of Chisinau Ana Lucia Culev has said that if the Government keeps insisting on funding the installation of a Christmas tree in downtown Chisinau, the municipality will not make arrangements for a Christmas tree of its own.
According to Ana Lucia Culev, central authorities have monopolised the organisation of entertainment programmes during winter holidays. It was stated within the meeting that, despite the fact that cultural manifestations have been traditionally organised by the local authorities, in the last three years the Government took this responsibility upon itself and apparently is not willing to yield it.
The Deputy Mayor mentioned that the municipality will organise an artistic programme for children in the Great National Assembly Square and a concert on January 1, featuring songs launched this year.
However, the organisation of the concert is still uncertain, because in case of frosty weather the local authorities could give up the idea. According to the Deputy Mayor, the concert held on November 17, on the occasion of the Youth’s Day, was a failure. Few young people gathered in the square because of the bad weather. Thus the spending of public money was not justified.
