Museum of Ethnography opens new exhibition

Folk costumes, glass jewelry, furniture and other pieces of traditional craftsmanship have been presented during the exhibition “We honor our motherland through our creation”, at the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History. The exhibition is dedicated to Moldova’s Independence Day, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the scientific secretary of the Museum Varvara Buzila, the exhibition is unique because for the first time the Museum administration and the Union of Folk Artists thought to celebrate all the jubilees of artisans in one day. Thus, 18 folk artists who celebrate their anniversaries in 2012 have been gathered. The youngest ones are aged 30 and the eldest 70. Ion Bolteanu, head of the Union of Folk Artists, said that the exhibition was a special celebration for the artisans, especially considering that such events aren’t organized too often. This one is at its first edition. “The headline of the exhibition highlights one more time the value and importance of artistic creation for the fate of our country’s culture. In this exhibition, we tried to stimulate a dialogue of generations and to offer the craftsmen with various levels of experience and mastership, from various fields, to meet and communicate. The event is also special because we have some seasoned artisans, patriarchs I’d say, who turn 70 this year”, declared Ion Bolteanu. The exhibition will be opened until September 9 and entrance is free.
