“All the Invisible Children” - a touching film about children deprived of childhood produced by Emir Kusturica and Mehdi Charef - opens the second Human Rights Film Festival on December 3. This and another six moving films can be watched in the Patria cinemas in Chisinau, Cahul, Balti and Tiraspol free of charge, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The movies are focused on human rights and especially the inclusion of people with disabilities, migration, the right not to be tortured, non-discrimination, rights of people living with HIV, justice and children rights.
“The Festival forms part of the human rights promotion activities carried out by the Moldovan Institute for Human Rights,” said jurist Ion Guzun, project coordinator at the Institute.
The organizers consider that the human rights should be promoted not only through the agency of reports and studies, but also by showing situations identical with the reality. “The movies deal with the most violated rights, including in our country,” Ion Guzun said.
Claude Cahn, human rights consultant at the UN Office in Moldova, welcomed the civil society's intention to focus on issued that are mainly the preoccupation of the UN. “This time again, we have been supported by the UNICEF, UNDP and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights,” Claude Cahn said.
Fir the first time, people of culture were engaged in the organization of the Human Rights Film Festival. Tatiana Cerga, soloist of Studio ONE band, and Vasile Todiras, guitarist of VaRa band, participated in the production of a video promoting the Festival.
Tatiana Cerga said it is not right that the people perceive themselves as masses rather that individuals. “I want that those who know me think about their rights and how they are respected in the society when they hear my name and my voice,” she said.
Vasile Todiras said the rock music they sing helps send messages promoting human rights.
The Human Rights Film Festival is taking place between December 3 and 9. It was organized with support from the Embassy of the Netherlands, Embassy of Germany, the United Nations Development Program, the United Nation Children's Fund, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Word Aids Campaign and the Embassy of Lithuania.
