National Army General Staff head resigns

Division General Ion Corobcean, commander of the National Army and head of the General Staff, tendered his resignation. The spokesman for the Ministry of Defense Alexandru Josan this information to Info-Prim Neo. According to Alexandru Josan, the resignation was offered earlier this month. The Government is to examine it and submit it to Moldova's Acting President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Mihai Ghimpu, who will make a decision over it. Under the legislation, the final decision regarding the dismissal of the National Army commander is taken by the Supreme Commander. The reasons for the resignation are not yet known. General Ion Corobcean contributed greatly to the development and reformation of the National Army in accordance with the Euro-Atlantic standards, Alexandru Josan said. Ion Corobcean, 49, has a length of service of 30 years. He has held the post of General Staff head and National Army commander since 1998.
