The World Bank said the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) has become a more trusted and reliable institution in Moldova and recognized as such internationally during Governor Sergiu Cioclea’s mandate.
“The World Bank Group thanks him for the constructive and fruitful cooperation and looks forward to further strengthening this cooperation under the new NBM leadership for the benefit of Moldova and its citizens,” the WB says in a message posted on its Facebook page, IPN reports.
Earlier this week, Sergiu Cioclea announced his resignation from the post of governor of the National Bank of Moldova as of November 30. He noted his decision was based on personal reasons. “For me, the post of governor hasn’t been actually a position. I set the goal of serving at the National Bank as long as it is needed to strengthen the banking system and to take the financial system out of the crisis,” Sergiu Cioclea stated in a press briefing.
In the November 23 sitting of Parliament, Speaker Andrian Candu said the governor of the National Bank of Moldova Sergiu Cioclea is a very good specialist and he is being prepared for another post, but didn’t provide details.
