The National Bee Day was instituted in the Republic of Moldova. According to a draft law that was approved by the Cabinet, it will be marked on May 20, IPN reports.
The bill was drafted by MP Gheorghe Ichim. “The promotion of larger consumption of honey and bee products will contribute in time to strengthening the health of the country’s population, to the growth of the market for bee honey and beekeeping products, including through the emergence of new opportunities for international cooperation between economic agents from the Republic of Moldova and other countries, which will serve as a platform and incentive for the implementation of the most advanced technologies and good practices of bee breeding, production of honey and domestic bee products. Last but not least, this will bring additional financial resources to the state budget and added value to the socioeconomic development of the country,” reads the draft law.
After the bill was approved, the Government’s spokesman Daniel Vodă said that the bill was designed in a move to further support the beekeeping sector. “In 2023, the total subsidies granted to beekeepers were significant. Post-investment subsidies for machinery and equipment worth 10 million lei, subsidies for the purchase of farm animals worth 3.3 million lei and diesel fuel excise subsidies to the value of 100,000 lei were offered. Also, out of the 73 applications submitted for subsidies in advance worth 80 million lei, at least half were intended for investments in the field of beekeeping,” stated Daniel Vodă.
