National Blood Transfusion Center to become center of excellence

The National Blood Transfusion Center will be turned into a national excellence center within the project “Strengthening capacities of hematotransfusion security in the Republic of Moldova 2014-2016” that was launched by the Ministry of Health in cooperation with the Swiss Red Cross, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué of the Ministry of Health, the National Blood Transfusion Center will exercise external quality control and will become an immunohematology training center for personnel of laboratories of Moldovan blood banks.

Within the project, the safety degree when collecting blood components will be increased and the blood transfusion offices of hospitals will be appropriately equipped.

The project will be implemented in 14 territorial administrative units, including the Transnistrian region, during three years. Its budget is about €1.7 million.
