National Council examines package of laws for justice reform

The bills on the status of judge, the Supreme Court of Justice, the Supreme Council of Magistrates and judicial organization were the topics for discussion in the July 22 meeting of the National Council for the Reform of the Law Enforcement Bodies, Info-Prim Neo reports. The meeting was held behind closed doors. After the meeting, the Council’s chairman, Head of Parliament Marian Lupu said there were submitted interesting proposals that will ensure access to justice of a high quality if implemented. According to him, there were made suggestions that will help finalize the mentioned package of laws. They agreed to generalize all the proposals formulated in the meeting by the end of next week. “After the proposals are generalized, they will be submitted to the Ministry of Justice and the working groups for finishing the strategy for reforming the legal system,” said Marian Lupu. The next meeting of the Council will focus on the final draft strategy for reforming the legal system. Earlier this month, Minister of Justice Oleg Efrim presented the preliminary strategy, saying it is aimed at building an accessible, independent, efficient, transparent and professional system of justice that will meet the European standards and will ensure the rule of law and the respect for the human rights. The strategy is to be completed by August 20. Afterward, the document will be sent to the responsible institutions for coordination. The National Council for the Reform of the Law Enforcement Bodies so far has held three meetings.
