A number of institutions and organizations have joined the National Financial Education Campaign of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), carried out with the support of the USAID Moldova Institutional and Structural Reforms Activity (MISRA) Program. The need to improve financial education among the general public was discussed at a workshop attended by representatives from the banking, non-banking and insurance fields, the NBM said in a press release.
“It is an institutional, but also a social commitment to provide citizens with the information they need in their daily lives. I mean, a well-informed consumer who can make responsible financial decisions to protect their interests and benefit from the financial environment. The contribution of financial institutions to the amplification of the impact of our campaign and the coverage area is able to give the process of financial education at the national level a more pronounced vector”, emphasized the NBM governor Anca Dragu.
William Trigg, director of the economic growth department of USAID Moldova, mentioned that a crucial element of this campaign is the involvement of the private sector. “Banks, insurance companies, non-bank lending organizations and other financial institutions supervised by the NBM interact daily with clients who often lack adequate financial knowledge. These institutions have the noble mission and goal of helping their clients make the right decisions. Improving the level of financial education should become an integral part of everything the private sector does, if Moldova wants to achieve a higher degree of financial prosperity”, said William Trigg.
For her part, Adriana Cazacu, state secretary at the Ministry of Education, emphasized that the Ministry considers this campaign very important. “We are glad that it reached many localities, in many institutions. We hope that through this expansion it will also reach more young people, students. Let’s unite all our efforts so that every young person is prepared for life and the challenges of the ever-changing world”, said the official.
In the coming period, the institutions and organizations that joined the National Financial Education Campaign will conduct financial information sessions for children, teenagers and young people, as well as other target groups, including work groups.
The campaign launched last fall aims to intensify financial education actions in society, being addressed to all citizens, regardless of age and occupation.
