A surgeon of the National Clinical Hospital was arrested on passive corruption charges. According to the National Anticorruption Center, the doctor asked and received 5,400 lei for performing an operation, IPN reports.
The Center said that through the agency of the National Anticorruption Line 0 800 55555, a young woman reported that the doctor asked 5,400 lei from the daughter of a patient for performing qualitative surgery even if the patient paid all the state taxes because she didn’t have a health policy.
The doctor was shortly caught in the act of taking the money transmitted under the control of anticorruption officers. The man tried to get rid of the money, throwing it from the 11th floor of the building. He was placed under arrest for 72 hours and faces three to seven years behind bars and a fine of 200,000 to 300,000 lei as well as ban on holding particular public posts or performing a particular activity during five to ten years.
In May this year, another doctor of the National Clinical Hospital, who headed the Vascular Surgery Section, was arrested on corruption charges. He asked for €1,700 and received €1,200 from a woman for operating her father. The case is to be sent to court in several days.
