National palliative care network to be developed in Moldova

A national palliative care network will be developed in Moldova to provide care services at home for seriously ill patients. The project is launched by Hospices of Hope Moldova in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, IPN reports.

Three organizations that provide professional medical-social assistance services to persons suffering from incurable diseases in Ocnita, Orhei and Soroca were integrated into the network. The project envisions the provision of monthly financial assistance to the teams for salaries, medicines, transport and consumables. Training in palliative care will be organized within the project. Another two mobile palliative care teams will be set up by August. These will benefit from the same support.

Hospices of Hope Moldova Country Manager Raluca Munteanu said that together with the formation of the teams, the number of visits to patients will rise by 50% and the quality of provided services will improve.

Rodica Gramma, director of the Public Health Management School, stated that a training seminar for persons who provide palliative care to patients will be staged the next few days.

Palliative care involves an approach that improves the quality of the life of patients and their families by preventing and removing suffering.
