The Cabinet agreed the national program on transfusion security and provision with blood products for 2017-2021, IPN reports.

Among the specific objectives of the program are: to maintain the blood transfusion assistance quality management system; to supply the country with own blood and blood products; to continuously develop voluntary blood donation and to increase the annual number of regular blood donors.

The estimative cost of the program is of 562.4 million lei.

In Moldova there are over 79,000 donors, 80% of whom are voluntary donors.
