The birth certificates of children will no longer contain the nationality of parents. A bill to this effect was passed by Parliament by a majority of votes. The child’s nationality will be indicated at the request of the parents or the children, when they reach 16, IPN reports.
Stella Jantuan, deputy head of the commission on human rights and interethnic relations, said the bill is intended to guarantee the person’s right to self-identification by offering the possibility of personally deciding the nationality or ethnicity that is to be written in the civil status document, at request.
