The Ministry of Health launched the nationwide vital hepatitis B, C, D treatment campaign. The medicines purchased for the purpose were distributed to most of the administrative units for each patient included in the program. Thus, the sick persons who asked for state-ensured antiviral therapy can go to the local specialist doctor to obtain the necessary quantity of drugs and start treatment.
So far, almost 1,700 patients submitted applications to the Ministry of Health’s expert commission, while 1,550 applications have been already examined. Spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health Stela Cheptene has told IPN that medicines for treating 3,000 persons suffering from chronic viral hepatitis were bought in 2016, as opposed to drugs for 200-30 persons the previous years.
The medicines for treating chronic viral hepatitis purchased last year will be used in Moldova for the first time, with an effectiveness of about 90%. Medical statistics show the given medicines ensure treatment during 8-12 weeks on average.
The drugs were bought at the price of 35 million lei. The money was earmarked for implementing the National Hepatitis Combating Program.
In Moldova, there are now over 15,000 people suffering from viral hepatitis B, over 28,000 people with chronic viral hepatitis C and more than 1,800 with chronic hepatitis D.
