NBM set banks’ contributions to resolution fund for 2025

The amount of contributions for 2025 for the entire banking system will be 193.5 million lei. The National Bank said that this calculation is based on: the target level of 3% of the amount of guaranteed deposits, the adjustment coefficient to increase the volume of deposits, and the bank’s specific risk-adjusted multipliers, IPN reports.

Banks have been paying contributions to the resolution fund since 2020 and the target level of 3% of the amount of guaranteed deposits of licensed banks, set by the Law on Bank Recovery and Resolution, is to be reached for the first time by 31 December 2024.

The National Bank, as a resolution authority, annually reassesses the target level in the process of deterring contributions to the resolution fund, taking into account the amount of guaranteed deposits of the entire banking system on the last management date of the first semester of the year preceding the one for which the contribution is calculated.

The target level calculated on June 30, 2024 was 917.9 million and was significantly higher compared to the target level on June 30, 2023, mainly as a result of the increase in the deposit grantee level according to the Law on Bank Deposit Guarantee, from 50,000 to 100,000 lei.

The Banking Resolution Fund was established to ensure the effective application of resolution instruments and powers by the National Bank of Moldova, and its resources are used according to the objectives of the resolution and principles stipulated in the Law  on Bank Recovery and Resolution. On June 30, 2021, the Fund’s resources amounted to 119.5 million lei, which include contributions paid by banks, as well as income from investing its resources.
