The Central Electoral Commission today announced the number of mayorships and councilor seats to be contested in the October 20 nationwide local elections. In particular, there are 898 mayor’s offices, 1,108 district councilor offices, and 10,472 city and village councilor offices up for grabs.

The size of the local council is determined based on the number of population in the respective administrative unit as of January 1 of the given year. The largest town councils, those of Orhei, Soroca, Ungheni, Comrat and Cahul, will have 27 councilors.

In the case of district councils, 35 in total, there are 27 seats in 7 councils, 33 seats in 21 councils, 35 in 5 councils, and 51 seats in the Chisinau City Council.
