Negotiations with Russia will be restarted next week, Igor Dodon

The negotiations on the provision of a loan with Russia will be resumed next week, based on a Government decision. “We must find solutions so as to ensure the stability of the budget in Moldova,” President Igor Dodon was quoted by IPN as saying in the program “President Responds”.

He noted that in the morning of May 8, he had a meeting with Prime Minister Ion Chicu and Parliament Speaker Zinaida Grechanyi, centering on the Constitutional Court’s judgment by which the lending agreement with Russia was declared unconstitutional.

President Dodon stated that the given judgment leads to the appearance of a state budget deficit of 4 billion lei. As a result, the costs could be cut, including the social ones. To avoid this, resources should be identified for covering the deficit.

The agreement with the Government of the Russian Federation concerning the provision of a state loan of €200 million was declared unconstitutional by the Constitutional Court in the evening of May 7, after almost nine hours of deliberations. The Court declared unconstitutional the Government decisions regarding the initiation of negotiations on the agreement and concerning the approval of the bill to ratify the agreement. The law to ratify the agreement adopted by Parliament on April 23 was also declared unconstitutional.
