Chairman of the Civil Society Congress Fiodor Ghelici, who runs for the post of Chisinau councilor as an independent candidate, leveled new accusations against SA Moldtelecom. This time, the national telecoms carrier is accused of applying a money laundering scheme through the agency of a cleanup company, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a news conference on Wednesday, Fiodor Ghelici said that this January, the administration of Moldtelecom told women of the auxiliary personnel to write resignation applications as they will be immediately employed at a cleanup company. Under a contract signed with the given company, the women were to continue working at Moldtelecom, but the carrier indicated a larger sum in the expenditure documents. The difference between the indicated expenditure and the amounts paid to the employees doing the cleanup was divided between the administration of Moldtelecom and that company, said Fiodor Ghelici.
He also said that most of the employees accepted to be transferred to the given company as they were afraid they will remain without a job. About 30 women refused to be transferred because they did not want to renounce the social package provided by Moldtelecom and were thus included in the layoff list. “How can we speak about human qualities when they steal money like this at Moldtelecom and treat these women so disrespectfully?” asked Fiodor Ghelici.
A number of women working for the national telecoms carrier came to the news conference and confirmed the information. “We, the ordinary people should have the right to work. They fire us unlawfully,” said one of the women Maria Ungureanu, who faces redundancy. Maria Ungureanu said her colleagues who were transferred to the private company do not receive the salaries on time and bonuses as they were told.
In a news conference earlier, the Civil Society Congress presented videos showing an employee of Moldtelecom’s law division taking bribe from the director of a limited liability company for maintaining the contractual relations with the carrier. The Prosecutor’s Office opened an inquiry into this case, while the national telecoms carrier suspended the employees from his post and is investigating the case.
