New home for six persons from psychoneurological institution of Badiceni

Six persons from the psychoneurological institution of Badiceni, Soroca, from September will live in a social home where they will learn to cope on their own. The opening of the home is envisioned in a memorandum signed by the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family and the Czech Development Agency, IPN reports.

According to Minister Stela Grigoras, the goal of the service is to increase the independence level of persons with disabilities. In the new home, these will learn to cook, to do the cleaning, the dishes and the laundry. They will also be helped to find a job.

“Each person is valuable and, regardless of the type of disability, everyone has the right to live in the community, closer to a family environment. We want very much most of the persons with mental disabilities who now live in residential institutions to soon be integrated into society by providing them with such homes,” said Stela Grigoras.

“We want to offer decent living conditions and a family home to these persons,” said Czech Ambassador to Moldova Zdeněk Krejčí.

The memorandum was signed within the national program to transform the residential system for caring for persons with mental disabilities. It envisions the opening of three more such homes, in Branzeni village of Edinet district, Cocieri village of Dubasari district and Balti town, until this yearend. Thus, another 18 persons will be integrated into society. The houses were already purchased and are to be repaired and outfitted. A house costs at least €10,000, while the repair and equipment works cost another almost €10,000. Recently, such a home was opened in Orhei.
