New local mayor elections will take place in Hănăsenii Noi commune of Leova district on May 19. A decision to this effect was taken by the Central Electoral Commission on Wednesday, IPN reports.

The new local elections in Hănăsenii Noi were set after the CEC took note of the vacancy of the post of mayor of the commune.

Following last autumn’s elections, Nicolae Popa of the Party of Action and Solidarity was elected mayor of Hănăsenii Noi. He tendered his resignation from the office of mayor after he had been elected head of Leova district.
