New measures aimed at rehabilitating, protecting and developing the cultural-natural reserve “Orheiul Vechi” were approved by the Cabinet on May 31, 2016. In accordance with the Government’s decision, the Ministry of Culture this year will take measures to restore, conserve and develop the reserve and the protection area, IPN reports.

There will be analyzed the conditions of exploiting and protecting a number of tourist facilities included in the Register of Monuments Protected by the State. Steps will be taken to reform the reserve’s management and to develop tourism in the region.

The document provides that the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure, in cooperation with the local public authorities and the competent institutions, will work out the project to repair the Butuceni – Mascauti local road.

The Cabinet recommends the local public authorities to cooperate with the reserve’s administration in designing and implementing the plan for laying out the area, to encourage the revitalization of handicrafts, people’s customs and traditions and to promote ecological products and develop cultural-ecological tourism.

The natural reserve “Orheiul Vechi” is a system of unique cultural and natural landscapes of special importance for Moldova.
