New Peace Corps volunteers to take oath Thursday

Forty-eight Peace Corps volunteers this Thursday will be sworn-in to serve in Moldova, the United States Embassy said in a press release.

Arrived in Moldova on June 5, the volunteers recently completed the training course to become English teachers, Health Education teachers and Community and Organizational Development workers throughout Moldova. During this training, the volunteers stayed with the Moldovan host families and began learning Romanian.

The swearing-in-ceremony will be officiated by Chargé d’Affaires Martin McDowell. Peace Corps Country Director Leslie McCuaig and representatives from the Moldovan Government will also welcome the new volunteers into service in Moldova.

The event will take the number of Peace Corps volunteers serving in Moldova to 96.

The Peace Corps service is a 27-month commitment, during which the volunteers contribute to the mission to promote world peace and friendship and a better understanding between Americans and people of other countries.
