New road signs set up in Chisinau

New traffic signs with an arrow and a notice saying ‘Minibus stop 30 m’ appeared on the streets of the capital city. According to the local authorities, the move is aimed at combating the stopping of minibuses in authorized places. Such a sign was placed on Banulescu-Bodoni St, near the monument to Stephan the Great, about 30 meters from the trolleybus station, where the people use to get on and off minibuses. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the head of the General Public Transport and Communications Division Adrian Boldurescu said that the need to set up such signs is stipulated in the Road Traffic Regulations, but this provision wasn’t fulfilled because there was no money available. Now that the 2012 municipal budget was approved, it was decided to place these signs. Adrian Boldurescu also said that the traffic signs will be set up in the most problematic places, where the drivers use to stop the minibuses illegally, causing thus congestion. They will also warn the passengers, who often stop the minibuses in different parts of the street, not in stations. The authorities plan to put up another 30 such signs on Pan Halippa, Ismail, Kiev, M. Viteazu and other streets.
