The Government approved the national tobacco control program for 2017-2021 and the plan of action for implementing this. The authorities aim to institute a new national system for monitoring the tobacco use-related morbidity and mortality tendencies and to promote the information of the population about the harm done by smoking, IPN reports.

Among the actions that are to be taken are: to monitor the use of tobacco, plant products and hookahs and to enforce the bans on cigarette advertising, promotion and sponsorship.

The implementation of the program will be coordinated by the National Tobacco Control Coordination Council whose activity will facilitate inter-sector cooperation between state institutions, international institutions and nongovernmental organizations in taking complex tobacco control measures.
