New vaccines against A H1N1 virus available in Moldova

The vaccines against the A H1N1 pandemic influenza that can be administered to children from the age of six months arrived in Moldova. The 380,000 vaccines PANENZA produced by the French company Sanofi Pasteur were donated by the World Health Organization, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the Avian Influenza Control and Human Pandemic Preparedness and Response Project. “The vaccine can be administered to all those who want. It is recommended especially to persons who form part of vulnerable groups, such as persons suffering from chronic respiratory diseases or who work in organized collectives exposed to the risk of catching the virus,” said Ion Bahnarel, the head of the National Scientific Practical Center of Preventive Medicine. The vaccine can be administered both to adults and children from the age of six months. Pavel Ursu, the head of the WHO Office in Moldova, said the World Health Organization warns that the risk of pandemic flu persists and the vaccination is the most efficient method of preventing its spread. The vaccine will be distributed by the National Scientific Practical Center of Preventive Medicine to family doctors centers the next days. It will be administered free of charge. The first case of A H1N1 influenza in Moldova was reported in July 2009. So far, the virus has taken 43 lives in Moldova. The death toll worldwide reached over 18,000. The World Bank-funded Avian Influenza Control and Human Pandemic Preparedness and Response Project was rolled out in 2007.
