"The EU will do everything possible to ensure that negotiations [with Moldova] are successfully concluded."

Moldova could finalize its accession negotiations with the European Union by the end of 2029, coinciding with the conclusion of the current European Commission’s mandate. This scenario was acknowledged by the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos.

Arriving in Chișinău yesterday, she brought a financial assistance package to help overcome the energy crisis, including in the Transnistrian region, and pledged to support Moldova’s accelerated EU accession process.

Transnistria Opens Its Doors

Representatives from the Ministry of Energy, the Bureau for Reintegration, Energocom, Moldelectrica, and Vestmoldtransgaz visited several commercial and industrial enterprises in the Transnistrian region on February 3 and 4, ensuring that they are not using EU grants for their operations.

At the same time, enterprises supplying gas, electricity, and heating continue to operate normally, the Government has assured.

Meanwhile, Chișinău is awaiting a response from Tiraspol. The EU has decided to allocate an additional €60 million to ensure energy security on the left bank of the Nistru River.

Dodon's Metamorphoses

The leader of the Socialist Party, Igor Dodon, after returning from Moscow – where he met with Patriarch Kirill, who has supported Russia’s invasion of Ukraine – made several statements.

Suddenly, Dodon, who had previously met with Krasnoselski and recognized his presidential status, called for Moldova’s reintegration. He also declared that the war in Ukraine must end and that the parties should sit at the negotiating table.

Additionally, Dodon insists on a new approach to cooperation with the EU and the “verification of NGOs in Moldova with the help of the USA.”

USAID, or Did It Not Say?

It seems that some politicians in Moldova have decided to build political capital around the USAID issue. The topic is actively discussed by former Prime Minister Ion Chicu as well.

A few days ago, he stated that "USAID funds criminals in our country," only to later thank the organization for its assistance to Moldovan villages and towns.

Letters to Plahotniuc’s Wife

The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office has indicted the wife of fugitive oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc, who is accused of money laundering.

Сolleagues from Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty received a response from the Prosecutor’s Office, stating that a request for legal assistance had been sent to Switzerland, where Oxana Childescu is believed to be, to subject her to questioning.

What to Watch Today?

Today, attention should be focused on the Government’s meeting, as well as on Tiraspol’s reaction to the additional €60 million allocated by the EU to support residents on the left bank of the Nistru River.
