Moldova's President Nicolae Timofti will receive a lump sum of 400,000 lei in compensation for resinging from the post of judge. The money was allocated by the Supreme Council of Magistracy from the Government's Reserve Fund, Info-Prim Neo. Finance Minister Veaceslav Negruta said that under the Law on the Judge Status judges were allowed a one-off compensation upon resignation in an amount equal to the average monthly salary multiplied by the number of full years worked as a judge. Nicolae Timofti had worked for 35 years in the judiciary before being elected President. When asked to tell whether the sum of 400,000 lei could be the greatest compensation ever granted to a judge, Veaceslav Negruta said he didn't possess such information.
