Members of the Association of Veterans of the 1992 War “Tiras-Tighina” sent a letter to Moldova’s President and Premier, by which they express their dissatisfaction with the work of the law enforcement bodies and with the aggressive attitude of the administration of the Ministry of the Interior towards the former employees.
The Association’s head Anatol Caraman, in a news conference at IPN, said that the Moldovan people are disappointed and lost confidence in the law enforcement bodies. After the events of April 7, 2009, society expected radical changes at the law enforcement bodies, but the situation remained unchanged, while in some sectors became even more difficult than during the Communist rule. The democratic Government didn’t fulfill its electoral promises. The reformation of the Ministry of the Interior led to a rise in the number of employees and in costs. The law enforcement bodies continue to be politicized and their employees satisfy the interests of those who promoted them to posts.
“Trustworthy sources informed us that the special services of the so-called Transnistrian republic possess the personal data of all the command officers who directed the military defense operations in 1992. They also have the personal files that are classed as ‘state secret’ and are kept in the state register,” said Anatol Caraman.
He also said that the Ministry of the Interior’s administration started to threaten the managers of public associations who criticize the law enforcement bodies and the government functionaries through the mass media. In this connection, the head of the Association of Internally Displaced People from Transnistria Anatolie Bazgu said he has been pressed by intimidation and threatened with criminal cases by order in 2010-2013.
Ghenadie Cosovan, a member of the Administration Board of “Tiras-Tighina”, said the Ministry’s administration threatens him regularly for the criticism he levels at the law enforcement bodies and about the internal situation. Pressure is also exerted on his son who is a police officer.
The head of “Law and Democracy” Foundation Iulia Deliu called on Prime Minister Iurie Leanca to take attitude to the latest raider attacks because the executive must make sure that the state institutions serve the people’s interests, not the interests of political parties.
The members of “Tiras-Tighina” Association asked President Nicolae Timofti and Premier Iurie Leanca to intervene and review the number of employees at the Ministry of the Interior as practically all of them have a bad reputation and are involved in scandals. If nothing is done, the organizations will resort to civil influence actions.
