The National Council of War Volunteers Union of the Republic of Moldova in a news conference at IPN made a call to the central authorities, asking that a Day of Remembrance of Volunteers killed in Battle should be instituted on June 19.

The volunteers also requested to adopt the law on the special status of war volunteers by June 19. Otherwise, they will understand that the power does not respect their promises and will mobilize the people in protests in summer so as to remove the current regime by democratic ways.

“The day of June 19, 1992 will remain in our history as the saddest day of the war for Moldova’s independence and integrity in our history. The most ferocious battles were given then near Tighina and a lot of volunteers died there, many of whom haven’t been identified. We consider the day of commemoration for the Tighina victims – June 19 – should be declared the Volunteers Day in recognition for those who rose to protected their ancestors’ land from conquerors on their own initiative,” says the call of war volunteers.

Chairman of the National Council of War Volunteers Union of the Republic of Moldova Sergiu Caracai said the volunteers started to be humiliated immediately after the war and have been humiliated during all these 25 years. “Namely the humiliation policy brought half of the volunteers to demise in times of peace. We suspect that such policies are aimed at hiding particular qualms about decisions taken by the authorities during the 1990-1992 war. If so, why should be, the volunteers, be sacrificed? The authorities should respect their promises and should ultimately adopt the special status of volunteer of the 1991-1992 war,” stated Sergiu Caracai.

The war volunteers consider themselves betrayed and say the police officers who hid behind the volunteers during the Nistru war benefit from social welfare payments, while the volunteers do not enjoy at least an appropriate status.
