NIT fined for lack of equidistance and pluralism
The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) imposed a maximum fine of 5,400 lei on the television channel NIT for lack of equidistance and pluralism in the news programs, Info-Prim Neo reports.
At Friday's meeting of the Council, the BCC member Ludmila Vasilache said that the public TV channel Moldova 1 made certain changes to the better, but NIT did not. The reports and news stories on NIT continue to be misleading, while the channel is used as a platform for hate-filled discourses,” she said.
Another member of the Council, Cornel Mihalache replied that no TV channel in Moldova is fully impartial and that the NIT is not the only channel that violates the principles of equidistance.
BCC chairman Gheorghe Gorincioi said the pluralism of opinion is a sensitive issue in Moldova. He criticized the fact that during the news programs on NIT, the presenters give their opinion, but this is inadmissible. “There are political and social programs for this, while NIT's task is to report the truth, without making comments. The people can form opinions themselves,” he said.
Sergiu Reazanţev, the head of the TV channel NIT, said that the channel observes the principles of equidistance and the pluralism of opinion.
All the TV channels except two were monitored to see how they implement the pluralism of opinion. TV 21 is not broadcast through ether and could not be monitored, while EuTV does not have news programs anymore.
