Nokta presents project monitoring Gagauz legislators

The new Gagauz mass media project Nokta will publish dossiers about the members of the People’s Assembly. By clicking on the MPA Dossiers category on www.nokta.md readers can find about each MPA’s political activity, business interests and other relevant information.

Nokta coordinator Mihail Sirkeli told a press conference at IPN that the project will focus on data journalism and wants to bring more transparency to the Gagauz region’s administration. MPA Dossiers will gather all the available information about the members of the Gagauz People’s Assembly. Sirkeli says that although the MPAs are influential people in the region, there is no database with information about them. Nokta will provide access to such information gathered in a single place.

Next spring, Nokta will launch another series of stories that will showcase the situation of the education system in Gagauzia. In July, an economy-focused category will be launched.

“We will bring expertise to the table. Data journalism means working with statistics, careful analysis and finding some trends that you won’t see on TV. Our job is to highlight these processes and trends, to present them in a reader-friendly way, such as infographics”, said journalist Veaceslav Craciun.

Nokta will also publish analyses, news and reports. “We want to use data journalism to ensure the transparency of the region’s administration, to analyze political, economic and social events in Gagauzia, and will also publish video stories on various topics”, said Sirkeli.

Nokta is a project implemented by Piligrim-Demo with the support of the National Endowment for Democracy.
