Northern districts are in critical situation

The situation in the northern districts of the county continues to be critical. Dozens of schools and kindergartens were closed. The ambulances cannot get to patients because the roads are blocked. Some of the settlements experience shortages of bread. Edinet district head Oleg Scutaru has told Info-Prim Neo that about 50 persons, 12 of whom children, were taken out of snowdrifts. The adults were accommodated in the meeting hall of the District Council, while the children were taken to a kindergarten. Another almost 60 persons were evacuated from five minibuses running on the Moscow – Chisinau route that became trapped. The local authorities decided to make roads through fields as the layer of snow there is much thinner than on roads. Oleg Scutaru said an ambulance was called to a village where a child needed medical care, but it could not reach that settlement. Thus, the child was brought by a sled pulled by horses. All the mayors agreed to provide by a sled with horses at each mayor’s office so that they take the sick persons to the hospital. Towards the end of the day, the settlements of Edinet district may be short of bread and measures should be taken to prevent such a situation. The head of Ocnita district Ion Tomai has told Info-Prim Neo that 15 snowplows work round the clock. Four buses coming from Moscow and Kiev will remain at the customs post in Otaci until the roads are unblocked. There are villages in the district that remained without bread 2-3 days ago because the roads are impassable and the trucks cannot bring bread. The local authorities agreed to import bread from Ukraine because it is nearer and there are access ways. The hospitals and other public institutions will be supplied with bread first of all. Nine of the 26 schools continue to work even if an order was made to suspend the education process. The ambulances could not get to two pregnant women in Briceni. The district’s head Efimia Bandalac stated for Info-Prim Neo that snowplows clean the roads of snow and the ambulances go behind them. There were created mobile teams of social workers and rescuers who help the elderly persons and heat their homes. The head of Donduseni district Anastasie Pavlov said the situation was critical. The authorities managed to unblock several vehicles, including two minibuses, but the snow continues to fall. Several villages were disconnected from the power supply, but the problem was solved. The roads that connect the villages between them remain blocked. In Donduseni village, there is no more bread and the people use the own resources. The schools and kindergartens were closed for three days. In connection with the unfavorable weather conditions, the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure called upon the motorists not to go on trips along the public roads, especially towards the northern districts.
