Norway's Day to be celebrated in Chisinau on May 14

The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Romania and the Republic of Moldova, resident in Bucharest, will celebrate the Norwegian National Day in Chisinau. During his stay in Chisinau, the Norwegian Ambassador to Moldova Øystein Hovdkinn will inaugurate a 'Norwegian room' at the Free International University of Moldova (ULIM), Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Embassy. On the occasion of the National Day of Norway, a concert will be organized in cooperation with the National Philharmonic of Moldova “Serghei Lunchevici". The concert's soloist is the famous Norwegian cellist Øyvind Gimse, accompanied by the symphony orchestra of the National Philharmonic, and conducted by the Norwegian Torodd Wigum. The program of the concert features classic works composed by prominent figures of Norwegian music, such as Edvard Grieg, Johan Halvorsen, Johan Svendsen, Ole Bull, along with a piece of music composed by the young contemporary artist Johannes Rusten. The concert is free of charge and takes place at the Philharmonic of Moldova on May 14, starting at 18:00. It is organized with the support of the Music Information Centre Norway. Norway adopted its Constitution in 1814, and it is this event that is celebrated on May 17. The Norwegian Parliament held the first May 17 celebrations in 1836, and the day has been regarded as the national day ever since.
