At least 50 accidents involving public units of transport have happened on the national roads so far this year. This is by 22.5% more compared with the corresponding period last year. According to the head of the Traffic Police Division Segiu Armasu, this situation is alarming and requires making changes to the law that regulates the work of the traffic police, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Traffic Police Division’s statistics show that four persons have been killed in road accidents involving public transport since the start of this year. In a meeting with route administrators and representatives of state institutions, Sergiu Armasu said the main causes of accidents include the running after profit, the drivers’ lack of experience, the non-examination of the units of transport from technical viewpoint and non-observance of the working regime. The deputy head of the Land Transport Division Petru Mititiuc said the drivers are often fined for ignoring the stoplights and speaking on the mobile phone while driving. In order to ensure the safety of passengers, the authorities suggest withdrawing the license of the route administrators who do not obey the law. As many as 100 road accidents involving public units of transport occurred in 2011. They resulted in 20 deaths.
