Number of cases of flu and acute respiratory infections reached epidemiological level

The number of cases of flu and acute respiratory infections reached an epidemiological level, IPN reports, quoting a communique of the Ministry of Health.

Most of the reported cases of flu and acute respiratory infections are isolated cases, but there are also six hotbeds of acute respiratory infections. These are: the Theoretical Lyceum No.1 of Briceni town, where 89 cases were recorded; the nursery and secondary school of Cairaclia, Taraclia, with 30 and, respectively, 22 cases, and three nursery schools in Ceadir- Lunga town, where both the children and the personnel were affected.

On February 24, the number of cases of flu was 316, of acute upper respiratory tract infections – over 120,000, while of severe acute respiratory infections – more than 34,000. Of the total number of persons infected with flu, 36.4% are children younger than 15.

The six cases of death from flu occurred because the persons went to see a doctor too late and because they developed complications in association with other chronic infections. The persons hadn’t been vaccinated.

The commission for emergencies of the Ministry of Health decided that the medical-sanitary institutions should outfit some of the institutions and should create conditions for hospitalization in case the epidemiological situation worsens. The National Public Health Center and the local public health centers will monitor the circulation of viruses through sentinel posts by lab tests and will permanently inform the population about the flu and infection prophylaxis measures.
