Number of pandemic flu cases goes up

The number of cases of pandemic influenza A(N1H1) last week rose by about 700. 415 of the 1,865 infected persons have been hospitalized, a decline compared with the previous weeks, Info-Prim Neo reports. At Monday's meeting of the Chisinau City Hall, officials of the Health Division and of the Municipal Preventive Medicine Center confirmed that the number of persons infected with pandemic flu has increased, but the forms of the disease are lighter and many of them are treated at home. According to the head of the Health Division Luminita Suveica said yet that more persons experiencing pandemic-flu like symptoms consulted the family doctors last week. “The medical-sanitary institutions in the municipality of Chisinau are ready to cope with the larger number of cases. 92 beds are available in hospitals,” she said. “At the same time, more patients are now treated with Tamiflu. The medical institutions have 18,000 dozes at present,” Luminita Suveica said. Specialists of the Municipal Preventive Medicine Center said the 150,000 vaccines that came from Romania will start to be used this week. But these vaccines can be administered only to persons older than 16. Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb, the head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport, said 92 students have been diagnosed with pandemic flu in Chisinau last week. Fourteen groups in 14 kindergartens, 61 classes in 36 schools and five schools have been closed. The sanitary-epidemiological situation is strictly monitored in retail outlets and markets. 36 units had been inspected last week. Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca demanded keeping the situation in schools and retail outlets under control and sanitizing the markets and the adjoining areas.
