Official arrested over procurement of ambulances

A deputy director of the National Center for Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine is in custody and other suspects have been escorted to be questioned over the purchase of 69 ambulances last year.

The National Anticorruption Center said in a press release that prosecutors are looking into the way the procurement process was organized and whether there was any favoring of the winning bidder.

According to the investigation, the provider was selected despite not being eligible and subsequently failed to fully meet the contractual obligations.

Moreover, the Center’s director and one of his deputies are believed to have returned more than 2 million lei in kickback to the provider.
