The director and the regional manager of a network of gas stations will be tried for active corruption, IPN has learned from the Prosecutor General’s Office.
It was determined that this January, the suspects, who acted in collusion, gave bribe to a senior inspector of the Consumer Protection Agency for ignoring consumers’ complaints and for carrying out superficial inspections at the 22 gas stations that they managed. For these services, they gave the inspector 220,000 lei during a year, paying the sum in installments of 55,000 lei quarterly.
The two were arrested two months ago and face up to 12 years in jail and a fine of up to 400,000 lei if they are found guilty.
The investigation of the inspector and another oil company owner who acted as an intermediary will be soon completed and the case will be sent to court. The two are both under arrest.
