Olimpia taken over by Balti mayor’s office, remains in National Division

Olimpia Balti will continue to play in the national football championship. The club was taken over by the Chisinau mayor’s office after former sponsor Sergey Kiselyov announced he decided to withdraw all the teams from Moldova’s championship. “All the rights of Olimpia belong to the Balti mayor’s office now. Thus, the young footballers of the Balti Specialized Football School will form part of the lineup of Olimpia for the second part of the championship,” Mihai Anghel, first vice president of the Moldovan Football Federation, said in a news conference on March 1. The second team of Olimpia will be disbanded and will not take part in Division A. All the footballers will play in the National Division for the main team. On March 3, Olimpia will play the first return match in the National Division in Vadul lui Voda against Rapid Ghidighici. Most probably, the team will be trained by former striker Sergey Rogachev. No decision has been taken yet as regards the women’s teams Olimpia. In a news conference the same day, businessman Sergey Kiselyov said he decided to withdraw all the teams financed by him from the national competitions in protest at the work of the Moldovan Football Federation. He has harshly criticized the Federation during the last few years, being often fined and suspended.
