On Europe's day, we'll show Moldova's harsh reality: Dorin Chirtoaca

“This year we'll mark Europe's Day in Chisinau by telling the citizens the reality exactly as it is – harsh, tough in terms of Moldova's observing the European standards.” The statement was made by Dorin Chirtoaca, Chisinau's mayor. He told the staff sitting of the city hall on Monday that the people would be offered the possibility to see video and printed materials testifying about the abuses committed by the law-enforcement bodies after the April 7 havoc, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Chisinau mayor has said the police will be invited as special guests to the exhibition in Europe's Square and on the Alley of the Classical Writers in the Stefan cel Mare Public Garden. “We'll show them evidence about the torture practiced by the law-enforcers from April 7 till the youths were released from cells,” Dorin Chirtoaca said. According to him, the visitors of the exhibition will be able to see the contents of the international documents issued by the Council of Europe, the European Union and which “stay somewhere at the police, without any response on behalf of the ones bound to enforce them,” the mayor said. Culture division head Lucia Culev has said no Romanian band will be invited to Chisinau, as traditionally they did, because Moldova imposed visas to Romanians. “We were preparing to have a show with Florin Piersic, Emilia Popescu and Radu Beligan, but we canceled them because of the visas,” Culev said. Instead, they will show the play “Made in Moldova” by Constantin Cheianu, directed by Sandu Grecu. The venue for the play is to be decided. On the occasion of Europe's holiday, jazz and folk music performances will be on, as free wi-fi internet will be available in Stefan cel Mare Public Garden.
