Each second college student in Moldova pays for his studies, Info-Prim Neo learned from the National Bureau of Statistics. Tuition for nearly 15,500 students (49.4%) is covered by the state budget, 15,700 students (50.1%) pay tuition fees, and the remaining 0.5% of students get financial coverage from other sources. The average annual fee varies between 1750 and 7985 lei, depending on the institution and specialisation. This year 31,300 persons were enrolled in colleges from the country, a 3.6% increase compared with the last year. Out of the total number of students 96.9% study full time and 3.1% part time. At the beginning of this school year, 49 colleges opened their doors to students. The number of persons studying in state institutions made up 28,900 persons, or 92.3% of the total number. 2,400 students entered private institutions, or by 121 persons more than last year. In the 2007/08 school-year 10,100 persons were enrolled in colleges, a 2.5% increase compared with the last year. The division by groups of specialisations reveals increased interest in the following specialisations: medicine (13.0% of the total number), economy (11.7%), transport (10.4%), services (8.4%), pedagogy (8%), constructions (5.5%), and informatics (5.4%). Places in dormitories are available for 89.6% of students that need accommodation.
