The business entities whose sales from retail and wholesale trade and service provision exceeded 2 million lei last year are obliged to install POS terminals by July 1 this year and to ensure the possibility of making payments with the help of cards. The savings and loan associations and microfinance organizations make an exception. The State Tax Service warns that this requirement is stipulated in the Law on Entrepreneurship and Companies, IPN reports.

The provision does not refer to the ambulatory trade network where sales in the period exceeded 500,000 lei. The business entities whose sales exceeded 2 million lei last year are not obliged to install POS terminals if the payments were made exclusively cashless, except for those made by commercial banks, and when the mentioned trade or service provision activities were performed in villages, except for those that form part of municipalities and towns.

The POS (point-of-sale) terminal is a computerized replacement for a cash register. The POS system can include the ability to record and track customer orders, process credit and debit cards, connect to other systems in a network, and manage inventory.
