The organizers of the Velohora event kicked off the Velohora Patrol action as part of the “One Road, One Life” project. The campaign is carried out in cooperation with the Chisinau Traffic Police Department and will run for 3 months in the Chisinau municipality, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to organizers, the goal of the Velohora Patrol is to raise awareness of traffic rules among cyclists and to improve the safety level on public roads. During the summer, groups of three volunteers on bikes dressed in red will patrol through the city.
One of the volunteers, Alexandr Berdicevschii, said that he and his colleagues would speak to other cyclists and convince them to wear a helmet and to respect traffic rules. Video reports will be filmed and posted on social networks.
Antonina Talpa, Traffic Police press officer, said that police was undertaking the “Bicyclist” action during which police workers discussed with cyclists and drivers about ways to prevent traffic accidents and distributed information materials for cyclists.
The project developed a booklet with recommendations for cyclists. Lessons were organized for a month in the schools of Chisinau. According to Velohora organizers, cyclists must were head protection and glasses to avoid lacrimation because of dust and small insects. They should also wear special gloves against sweating and equip their bikes with reflective sings visible from afar.
According to police data, 14 traffic accidents involving cyclists took place in Chisinau this year. 14 people were hurt, including 5 minors.
