Online application will calculate waiting time at border crossing points

The persons who intend to leave or come to Moldova can find out the estimated waiting time at border crossing points by accessing an online application launched by the Border Police. The application called “Online traffic” can be accessed on the institution’s website from any device with access to the Internet, IPN reports.

According to the Border Police, the application will offer the possibility of choosing the less crowded border crossing points. The application’s map is marked by three colors. Green will indicate the waiting time of up to 30 minutes, yellow – of up to 60 minutes and red – of over 1 hour.

The waiting time will be calculated for each direction apart: entrance and exit. The calculation formula includes the inspections performed not only by the border police, but also by institutions with powers on the border. If a longer than expected thorough check is carried out, by exceeding the anticipated time limit, the motor vehicle will be directed to the second check line, without influencing the average waiting time.

The information will be provided by the regional dispatcher’s officers and will be periodically updated, at an interval of one hour or when the situation requires.

In the summer period, the number of persons and units of transport increases significantly. In June and July, the border was crossed by over 3 million people, up 13% compared with the same months of last year, and by approximately 900,000 vehicles, an increase of 20%.
