Firefighter Ivan Nogailyc, who died in the Chisinau storehouse fire last weekend, was awarded the Order “Stephan the Great” posthumously. A decree to this effect was signed by President Nicolae Timofti, IPN reports.

“The award was conferred for irreproachable fulfillment of duties and for courage, bravery and spirit of sacrifice shown when saving human lives during a fire in Chisinau municipality,” it is said in a press release of the presidential press service.

The fireman lost his life in a fire in a storehouse located at 9 Uzinelor St. He entered the burning building to save persons blocked on the fourth floor.
