The man from Orhei who last summer set his sister-in-law on fire was sentenced to 15 years in jail, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, last June, being under the influence of alcohol, the man, who was divorcing his wife, came into conflict with his wife and her relatives. Being in the yard of the house of his father-in law, he threatened to set fire to the house. He then splashed gasoline on his sister-in-law and set her on fire.
The victim aged 20 was rushed in a coma to the district hospital, where she died in a week.
The 30-year-old culprit, who has a criminal record, got 15 years for deliberate murder and murder attempt. He was also obliged to pay 62,000 lei damages to the mother and sister of the victim.
The prosecutors, who demanded life imprisonment for the offender, intend to appeal the decision to a higher court.
