Olimpia Balti's midfielder Nicolae Orlovschi on Thursday, September 11, left for the United States to join Columbus Crew on trial. The American club participates in Major League Soccer and has players from England and Brazil. Nicolae Orlovschi is the third Moldovan soccer player in the last three years to try his luck as a professional in the United States. Earlier, Victor Golovatenco was close to playing for New England Revolution (Boston), while Denis Kalinkov sought a contract with Chicago Fire. However, neither of them succeeded in coming to terms with the American managers. Orlovschi, 23, played 40 matches for the Balti-based club and scored thrice. Orlovschi's record also boasts 18 matches played for Moldova's Under-17 and Under-19 squads, including four matches played at the 2002 European Championship in Denmark.
