A case of avian influenza was confirmed in a domestic farm in Heleșteni village of Nisporeni district. Contacted by IPN for details, Serghei Echim, the mayor of Marinici commune, which also includes the Heleșteni, said that the authorities and specialists are on the spot and are taking measures to avoid the spread of the virus.

The National Food Safety Agency warns households in the area to keep domestic fowl in closed spaces. They should not be allowed to bathe or drink water where wild birds drink. They should also be fed only in closed and covered spaces, where other birds do not have access.

All cases of illness or death must be reported to local veterinarians. When the authorities decide to destroy birds infected with avian flu, the owners are compensated.

As it is a virus that can also be transmitted to humans, increased personal hygiene measures will be taken.
