The leaves collection process in Chisinau is in full swing. Workers of the Public Amenities Division daily collect over 100 trucks of leaves that are taken away.

Contacted by IPN for a comment, the Division’s head Ion Burdiumov said the employees use pieces of equipment, but also manual labor, working also on Saturday and Sunday as the weather is still warm and the leaves fall gradually. Additional equipment will be contracted to manage to transport away the leaves swiftly.

For now, as the leaves are wet after the recent rain, leaf aspirators cannot be used. The leaves are taken to a specially set up place on Calea Ghidighici St. In the future, there will be bought equipment for compositing vegetal waste and the obtained compost will be used as a natural fertilizer in parks.

Ion Burdiumov called on the population to behave responsibly and keep the yards of apartment buildings, public transport stations and other places clean and to throw litter only in garbage bins, not yet in the piles of leaves.
